| NSI collects Rs.330 crores in J&K under various SSS | | | JAMMU, APRIL 16 National Savings Institute, Government of India, Chandigarh, today celebrated ‘Women Saving Day’ by organizing a function at Government Boys High School , Jammu Cantt. Corporator,Jammu Cantt. Pawan Singh was the Chief Guest at the function while Smt. Sushma Gandotra , Zonal Education Officer, Satwari presided. On this occasion a Symposium on the topic ‘Role of Women in Savings’ was organized in which students from Government High School Boys Satwari and Girls High School Jammu Cantt participated. Speaking on the occasion, Gurcharan Singh, Regional Director, National Savings Institute, Chandigarh highlighted the importance of the day and role of National Savings Institute in inculcating the habit of thrift amongst the masses and mobilization of resources. He said that during the last fiscal, a net collection of Rs.330 crore was mobilized in J&K State under various small savings schemes till February, 2007. In his address, Pawan Singh, Corporator appreciated the role of National Savings Institute in mobilization of resources for developmental projects of the State and advised the audience to minimize the wasteful expenditure and invest such savings in Government securities. He also advocated the need of women empowerment for development of the country and advised women to come forward and take agencies for mobilization of resources and supplement their income. Smt. Sushma Gandotra, in her address advised the students to carry forward the message of savings to their homes and imbibe the habit of thrift for their prosperity. Jasbir Singh, District Savings Officer, Jammu explained in detail various Small Saving Schemes. Master Pardeep, Miss Niharika, Master Sukhvinder were awarded first, second and third prizes respectively in the Symposium competition. Prizes were also given to the students who participated in symposium and cultural items.
