| Chaman condemns harassment of electorates in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 10: The former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has condemned the harassment of the electorates who cast their votes in Kashmir and stressed for firm measures to tackle the menace of terror and secessionism. Commenting upon the reports that separatists and ultras are harassing the electorates in Baramulla and other places for casting votes for Lok Sabha polls, Prof. Gupta said that it was strange that the authorities are failing to take action against the elements openly thrashing the electorates who exercised their right of vote but little action is being taken against those who preached boycott and now harassing the voters on one pretext or the other. He said the situation in the troubled Kashmir is getting complicated but for poor governance. If there have been a Government of the name, such unlawful activities would not have been there, so much so, the exercising of the right of vote would have been made difficult by such characters, he added and impressed upon the ruling leaders to realize their duties towards the citizen of India. Prof. Gupta expressed doubts about such type of forced polling boycotts and observed that repeated boycotts indicate the weakness of the Government leaders, who too wanted such boycotts so that they may not have depend upon the large number of voters. They want get elected with limited strength of people. He asked the separatists not to play with the rights of the people as this would not serve any cause except playing the game of certain ruling leaders. Such acts would help only some politicians. He also impressed on the Election Commission of India to take note of the sad happenings in Kashmir during and after the polling. |
