Jammu, May 10: Veterans Sammelan, first of its kind in the 61 years history of the League was held at the Welfare Housing Organization lawns by the Jammu and Kashmir Ex-Services League (JKESL) for the first time. The League was raised by Brig Ghansara Singh, OBE Ex-Governor of Gilgit which was affiliated with the Indian Ex-Services League raised in 1964 by Field Marshal K M Carriappa and Gen K S Thimayya. Dr Karan Singh is the Grand Patron of the State League. It was attended by all the functionaries of the JKESL to include welfare projects like the Welfare Housing Organization, The Fauji Public School, The Patrika Editorial Board, JKESL Security Agency, Pension Welfare Cell, Fauji Cooperatives, Paryavaran, Medicinal/Herbal Plantation scheme and other related organizations. JKESL President Maj Gen (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, highlighted the achievements of the League and thanked all functionaries for their dedicated and self less service to the organization for the welfare of the ex-servicemen fraternity of all the three services. He brought out that with the efforts of the IESL it has been possible to make the central Govt. agree in principle the concept of One Rank One Pension after three decades of efforts. He exhorted the ESM to stay united and realize that they are in a reckonable number to be able to tilt decisions democratically. He apprised them that unlike the Govt. servants the NGOs work with meager honorariums with selfless spirit and dedication and produce unmatched results.
