Srinagar, May 10 : Strong winds disrupted electricity supply and normal life in the summer capital, this fternoon. Tourists, enjoying shikara ride in the Dal Lake, were taken out as a precautionary measure due to strong winds. We have instructed the Shikarawalas to take tourists out from the Lake as there was apprehension of accident because of winds, official sources said.The Power Development Department (PDD) snapped electricity supply in the entire city, including civil lines after strong winds. "We stopped electricity supply to avoid any accident", a PDD official said adding power supply will be restored as soon as winds stop. He said" we do not know if winds have caused any damage to supply system. We are collecting information but so far everything is alright, he added. Offices and media organisations besides main Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) had to switch over to generators due to power failure. |
