Jammu, May 10: Left shocked over sudden death of married woman who died under mysterious conditions yesterday, the family members and kin of deceased today took to streets and staged a protest alleging the death of woman as 'dowry death' demanded action against her in-laws. Police have registered case against husband and two others in this regard., Relatives along with the body of the deceased woman blocked the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway for one hour near Shastri Nagar. "Asha Rani wife of Jasbir Singh, a resident of Digiana, Jammu on Friday succumbed to critical burn injuries at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H)", said a police official. However, relatives of the deceased woman held her husband responsible for the death and sought registration of murder case against the in-laws. They alleged that on May 2, Asha sustained burn injuries and was shifted to GMC&H Jammu. "Earlier, she was allegedly beaten by her husband, they added. "After beating severely her in-laws poured some inflammable substance on her and set her ablaze", claimed one of relative of the deceased. He added when they reached GMC&H Jammu, shockingly they came to know that the woman is 95 percent burnt. Alleging police inaction, the family members also said they have went to police on the same day indicting her husband for staging it as an accident, but police didn't respond to their complaint. The relatives alleged that her in-laws always sought dowry and used to harass her on minor issues. The protestors continued their protest for hours together however later on they lifted the protest following assurance from Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Harjeet Singh and cleared the highway. Thereafter the relatives perform the last rites of the deceased. Meanwhile concerned Police have registered a case under FIR no. 99/14 u/s 498 and 306 of RPC against Jasbir Singh (husband), his father Jeet Raj and mother Satya Devi. However, no one was arrested when last reports came in. |
