| Water Sports Centre at Dool fails to take off | | Crores go down the drain | | Arun Singh
Jammu, May 10: The mismanagement of Tourism Department can be gauged from the fact that it constructed a water sports center at Dool without assessing the feasibility and without obtaining permission from National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) for conducting water sports as a result crores have gone down the drain. Sources told Early Times that in order to promote adventure tourism in the state Kishtwar Development Authority (KDA) had constructed water sports center at Dool at a cost of Rs 1.21 crore in March 2009 under destination development phase-II Kishtwar but the same was not put to use due various technical complications of the site. They informed that KDA constructed the center without assessing the feasibility for this particular of sports in that area and moreover it did not get permission from NHPC for conducting water sports as the water reservoir was constructed under Dool Hasti Power project and the area has been restricted for the movement of general public. They alleged that KDA deliberately constructed it ignoring the set guidelines only to spend the amount sanctioned by central government. They further said that even authority did not acquire any equipment for water sports rendering the assets idle. However KDA admitted its failure and mismanagement to achieve the desire and said that the project was identified in view of huge water body but the purpose could not be achieved due to less inflow of tourists in adventure tourism. Moreover restrictions of NHPC on the spot in view of Dam site make it inconvenient to the visitors to make use of the facilities at Dool water sports centre, it added. |
