| Separatists to share table but Hurriyat prefers walking out | | Absence of separatist likely to affect RTC outcome | | Sanjay Khajuria Jammu April 17 While the People’s Democratic Party has acceded to participate in the third round table but Hurriyat once again has refrained from sitting on the dialogue table right from the beginning. Would this decision make a any difference or not is a million dollar question right now haunting political circles at this moment. As both these parties were strong proponents of demilitarization in the state, what would be the impact of the absence of one of them from the table is a subject of wild discussions. Political observers, who are keeping tab on the inconsistent political situation for the last few month opine that it was already expected that Hurriyat Conference (moderate) would not participate in the coming third Round Table Conference at Srinagar as it has reiterated its conventional and hackneyed stand of tri-party talks, including India, Pakistan and the separatists including militant groups. They added that Hurriyat and other like minded parties prior to such initiatives start riding on horses stolen from Pak stable knowingly that union government that has already bent its back itself considerably to call them on the dialogue table would never agree for troops withdrawal and sending them back to the barracks and so on and so forth. Notably, when both the State and Union governments are busy in setting the stage for the third Round Table Conference posthaste, the categorical ‘No’ from moderate Hurriyat Conference to participate in this much hyped round III of RTC certainly has dampened the spirits of the big players, they asserted. With this ‘No’ a question mark has been raised over the success of the Third Round Table Conference whether it will come to some conclusion due to the absence of Hurriyat Conference, while it was being looked with sheer optimism at initial stages. When contacted, Sham Koul a veteran journalist and political analyst said, “though its was not new from Hurriyat but it is unfortunate too.’ He said the moderate faction of Hurriyat has discussed issues with New Delhi and Pakistan separately, but when it came to join the RTC/Working Group Meetings, an initiative on the internal dimensions they always exhibited an indifferent attitude. As the Hurriyat repeats this rigid and adamant approach to the talks initiated from union government thus it itself reflects that they have some predetermined mindset, he said. It is to worthwhile to mention here that the manner in which the Hurriyat has said ‘No’ to third RTC has given rise to the feeling that this conglomerate has been given more importance than due to it as a result of which Hurriyat is always trying to defeat the purpose of the talks. Within the heat of the preparations for this hastily announced III-RTC Jammuites have developed a feeling that they are being ignored during the talks and express anger over the fact that all the RTCs had been scheduled at Srinagar and not even a single was held at Jammu. They also suggest that these talks are nothing but simply meant to distract the attention of people from the ongoing tussle of coalition allies on demilitarization of the state. “As there were rumours that PDP may withdraw its support thus the union government placed it well in time to ease out the pressure over the coalition, said Rakesh Sharma from Karannagar a government employee.
