Early Times Report JAMMU, May 17: J&K Society for Promotion of Youth & Masses (JKSPYM), a NGO working in the field of health and development, observed today the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day. This day aims to serves as a community mobilization campaign to raise social consciousness about HIV and AIDS. With 33 million people living with HIV today, the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial serves as an important intervention for global solidarity, breaking down barriers of stigma and discrimination, and giving hope to new generations. Dr. Ghansham Gupta, Principal/ Dean, Govt. Medical College & Hospital was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Bella Mahajan, HOD Microbiology &Incharge ICTC, Dr. V. K Gupta SMO, ART+ Centre, Dr. S. S. Sambyal, Medical Officer, from Chest Disease Hospital, Administrator GMC, Bakhshi Nagar Jammu, Guests of honour. Santosh Kumari, Project Coordinator, JKSPYM Community Support Centre while welcoming the dignitaries and the community members highlighted the importance of Candlelight Memorial which began in 1893 by an initiative taken by Global Network of people living with HIV / AIDS & is led by a coalition of some 1200 community organization in 115 countries. More than 100 community members participated on the occasion. Besides the candle lighting IEC materials also distributed among the general masses as well as community members. Lastly the program concluded with vote of thanks presented by Vihaan Team. |
