JAMMU, May 17: Members of Muzaffar Hussain Baig Fans Club today celebrated the victory of PDP stalwart and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Muzaffar Hussain Baig. They shouted slogans in support of Baig, burst crackers to give vent to their feelings and distributed sweets among people. Baig defeated NC's incumbent Shariefuddin Shariq with a margin of 29,219 votes. Mr Baig polled 1,75,277 against Mr Shariq's 1,46,058 votes. The separatist-turned-mainstream political outfit Peoples Conference-sponsored Salam-ud-din Bajad polled 71,154 votes while as an Independent MLA Engineer Rashid secured 22,090 votes. Independent Aga Syed Abdul Hussain polled 7301 votes. "When it comes to personalities who have done Jammu and Kashmir proud, we feel it is our duty to spread the message. Baig has made us feel more proud than ever. He is undoubtedly greatest amongst leaders Jammu and Kashmir ever had," said Naveen Jain, chairman of the Muzaffar Hussain Baig Fan Club. Jain said Baig has achieved a distinction for himself both in the public and professional life as a politician and lawyer and it is only because of his sheer talent, determination and maturity of thought he has proved to be an asset for the state of which we all should be proud of. |
