| KCC&I demands remission of interest to businessmen from J&K Bank | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, May 17: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCC&I) has lauded Jammu & Kashmir Bank especially its chairman Mushtaq Ahmad, Board of Directors and the management of the bank for continued growth in the business amounting to Rs. 53, 000 crores during the past four years. KCC&I President, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad said that achievement has been possible due to the hard work of the management and the trust and support of trading community. Ashiq said that KCC&I is of the opinion that a part of the profits of the Bank should be earmarked towards the remission of interest of trading community who have suffered losses and failed to repay the interest on their borrowings due to conditions not conducive for business activities such as curfews, hartals and bandhs. "Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry believes that this relief to the trading community is long overdue and as such it is our appeal to the Chairman and the Board of Directors of the Bank to provide relief to the trading community which has greatly contributed in the process of the attainment of the position where the Bank stands today," said Ashiq. In the meantime, a delegation of the chamber led by its President held a meeting with Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Commissioner, Commercial Taxes Department in his office chamber. The delegation discussed important issues and difficulties experienced by business, industry, traders and agriculture sector in their dealings with the Commercial Taxes Department. "The KCC&I drew attention of Commissioner Commercial Taxes towards the difficulties faced by the trading community in E-filing of returns and appealed him to take a lenient view of the dealers who may have failed to file their returns on time due to technical reasons or not being fully conversant with E-filing process. The Commissioner assured the Chamber that in the case of traders who approach the department a lenient view will be taken," said Ashiq. Ashiq said that chamber also discussed matters about relaxing of norms for the import of implements for agriculture and horticulture purposes. He said the Commissioner was requested to make the approach of the officers of the department friendly to instill confidence in the business community. "Matters regarding issuance of VAT 65 and C forms were discussed at the meeting. The Commissioner assured that necessary steps will be taken for making available these forms on the internet. The matters relating to GST, Entry Tax and Service Tax were also discussed," said Ashiq. |
