Governor inaugurates Junoon, painting exhibition

JAMMU, APRIL 18
Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S K Sinha today said that greatness of people and nation gets reflected through art and culture and hoped that budding artists would work for promoting glorious Indian ethos on a larger canvass.

Inaugurating ‘Junoon’ a painting exhibition by Mamta Mathur at Kala Kendra Art Gallery here this morning, the Governor said that paintings speak silently and convey message to innermost thoughts.

General Sinha referred to Mrs Mathur’s stints in various parts of the country and said that she has artistically captured and portrayed the Indian life on canvass. Projection of diverse culture adds to the feeling of national integration and promotes harmony between various regions, he added.

The Governor congratulated Mrs Mathur and hoped that her works will inspire young artists to give their best through the medium of paintings.

He noted with satisfactions the keenness being evinced by local youth in art and culture and said that Kala Kendra is emerging as a centre of artistic excellence. He went round various art galleries and appreciated the young artists who were busy in their paintings.

Lady Governor Mrs Premini Sinha was also present on the occasion. Mr Mathur explained to the Governor and his wife various moods and reflection brushed by her on canvass.

Welcoming the Chief Guest, Secretary Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr Rafiq Masudi said that the bookings in Kala Kendra is reflection of growing artistic taste in the city of temples. He also spelt out measures taken by the Academy for promoting art and culture.

In her vote of thanks, Mrs Mathur expressed her gratitude to art lovers and her family who have always appreciated her works. Born in Ajmer, she has become a household name to the artisans of Rajasthan. She is getting recognition at the national level with her painting exhibitions and art works all around the country. Few of her paintings have also gained her appreciation across the globe. Many of her collections are at Boston, Gambia, California, Florida and Paris as personal collections. Her works have been chosen as ‘Women Artist of Rajasthan-2006’ and has bagged best art teacher award in Aurangabad.

The painting exhibition had been sponsored by the Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
