Yaseen’s open threat call
Terror attacks will escalate if …
4/18/2007 11:57:09 PM
Srinagar:
Separatist activist and JKLF chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik today accused India and Pakistan of diluting the issue of Kashmir rather than resolving it.
In what could be defined as an open threat to nation’s sovereignty and security, the separatist activist warned that the delay in resolving issue of Kashmir would produce fidayeen (suicide bombers) only.
*******Observers, however, feel Yaseen’s statement as an assault on nation’s security machinery saying that in Kashmir it has become a routine affair that a separatist snarls anti-national statements while law and order machinery remains mute spectator.
Observers further stated that when Yaseen Malik or any other activist like him make the statements that threatens country’s integrity, they should be immediately booked and dealt with sternly.
It is believed here that Yaseen’s saying that delay in resolving the issue would produce more militants is an indirect consent that militancy is being supported by him and other activists like him and in case their demands are not conceded to, they will escalate the terror attacks on innocents, political leaders and security officials.*******
Meanwhile, the JKLF chief said he is launching a mass campaign throughout the valley to seek active participation of Kashmiri people in the peace process between New Delhi and Islamabad. Malik has named this campaign as “safar-e-azadi” (journey to freedom), which, he said, would begin from May 6. “We will visit every village and locality to garner peoples’ support to our demand. The safar (journey) can go for 4-6 months”, he said.
Talking to media persons in Srinagar on Wednesday the JKLF chief said that the peace process between India and Pakistan was now four-year old but the genuine players of the peace process have not been identified yet. “India and Pakistan are bilaterally talking. “No doubt India and Pakistan are parties to the dispute of Kashmir. But the people of Kashmir form the principal party. They (India and Pakistan) cannot decide bilaterally. The people of Kashmir must be given full role and opportunity to shape up their future”, he said.
Malik said that he supported the peace process with a hope that the people of Kashmir would be involved in working out the final solution of Kashmir. “I have met several leaders in Delhi and Islamabad. I get the feeling that they are not resolving the issue of Kashmir. They are trying to dissolve the issue. I want to communicate them that the people will not accept any decision imposed on them”, he said.
Yasin warned of mass agitation simultaneously in Srinagar and Muzaffarabad if New Delhi and Islamabad continued to ignore the people of Kashmir. “I appeal to the international community as well to impress upon India and Pakistan for including the representatives of Kashmiri people in the peace process”, he said.
“Bilateral agreements and decisions will not work. Militancy is the reaction to Indira-Abdullah Accord of 1975. Another bilateral accord will only produce fidayeen. This not my threat but a concern”, the JKLF chief said.
The JKLF chief declined the Prime Minister’s invitation to third roundtable conference and said that there was no point in sitting in a meeting where mainstream politicians were also invited.
