| iv Com visits Dal lake | | | Srinagar, April 18 Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Mr. Basharat Ahmad alongwith Vice Chairman LAWDA, Director Tourism, SE R&B, Ex Engineer LAWDA besides representatives of valley citizen’s council and House Boat Association today conducted an extensive visit of the Dal lake to take stock of measures initiated under the Dal Development project to restore pristine glory of Dal lake, an epitome of our cultural heritage. He also assessed the areas caousing degradation and pollution of the lake. The representatives of valley citizen’s council identified the resulting causes pollution of the Dal and suggested some remedial measures to restore the grandeur of the world famous lake. On the occasion, Vice Chairman LAWDA informed the Divisional Commissioner that two Sewage Treatment Plants are coming up at Brari Nambal and Baghwan Pora Srinagar at a cost of Rs. 12 crore. These would help scientifically treat sewage of Dalgate, Buchwara, Miskeen Bagh, Lal Bazaar, Leprosy hospital and other areas which also go a long way to preserve the lake. Three sewage plants have already started functioning in the city. Later, addressing a joint meeting of officers and representatives of House Boat Association and valley citizen’s council at Nehru Park the Divisional Commissioner called for joint efforts to preserve and restore the past glory of the Dal lake. He said it is obligatory upon all of us to cooperate with LAWDA in preservation and protection of the lake as also to evoke a strategy for the rehabilitation of 30,000 Dal dwellers. He said we have to preserve our heritage for our posterity and asked for keeping watch in youngsters who are taking to drugs. The divisional Commissioner also inspected pace of work on various road projects on Boulevard and Habak road and directed the engineers for their speedy completion to relieve public of inconvenience.
