| Tourism commemorates World Heritage Day | | Hari-Parbat fort re-opened after 17 years | |
Srinagar, April 18 In its endeavor to promote cultural tourism and preserve Kashmir’s rich past for future generations Department of Tourism today re-opened Hari-Parbat fort for public after 17 years to commemorate World Heritage Day in a rare way. Today it was media persons turn and was a thrilling moment for most of them who visited this historical place first time. Speaking to a selected gathering, Director Tourism Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah said that our heritage and culture is a real wealth and protection and preserving this valuable asset demands our collective efforts. He said heritage and culture is also a major object of travel and plays an important role in tourism at all levels. Highlighting the importance of Hari-Parbat fort Mr. Shah said that the fort was built during Akbar’s rule by Syed Yousuf Khan Rizvi and supervised by Mir Mohammad Hussain. The fort is pure cultural heritage and the department proposes the revival of such historical areas and buildings like Naagar Nagar area encompassing Hari-Parbat, Shrine of Makhdoom Sahib (RA) and Gurdwara Chatti-Padshahi. He said the department has been focusing on conserve Buddhist circuit in the valley which is an essential part of glorious heritage of Kashmir, in this connection, he said a project at an estimated cost of Rs. Two crore has been submitted to the Ministry of Tourism and is expected to approved soon. Former Director General, Tourism and representative of Heritage India J&K chapter Mr. Mohammad Saleem Beigh said cultural landscape of the valley is to be changed and the glory of city is to be revived to attract more tourists to visit historical place of Srinagar City. He said it would be a big contribution of Tourism department if the identity of historical city of Srinagar is established in proper perspective. Among others, representatives of tour and travel organization were present on the occasion. The Sufiyana item was also presented on this occasion creating proper ambience in and around Hari-Parbat fort.
