| DBPS demands gazetted holiday on Parshuram Jayanti | | | Jammu April 19 Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha (DBPS) organized a religious function to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram a saint and warrior here today at Brahaman Sabha Parade. The meeting of executive members of DBPS reiterated its demand to state government for announcing a calendar holiday and reservation for economically backward members of the community. A large number of devotees offered their prayers to the portrait of lord Parshuram and sought blessings at the main function organized at Dogra Brahman Sabha Parade. The programme started early this morning with Yagnopaveet Sanskaar of about 50 persons including youths and children from within the Brahman community. The atmosphere turned spiritual with the enchanting of Vedic mantras and performance of the holy Yagna on this occasion. Devotees drawn from villages and the Jammu city itself also observed Bhajan Kirtan to mark the day. A community lunch was also organized and Prasad was distributed among the devotees. The religious ceremony was organized under the active supervision of Dev Raj Baru President of the host organization with the active support of Varinder Magotra vice president; Shakti Dutt Sharma general secretary, Surinder Sharma secretary and Bodh Raj Sharma the treasurer. Earlier a meeting of the senior members from the community was held under the presidentship of Dev Raj baru to take stock of various activities and projects undertaken in hand by the Sabha for the welfare of the community. It was resolved to deliberate upon various resolution like to impress upon the state government to declare gazetted holiday on the Birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram; to get reservation in education and government jobs for the economically backward and poor members of the community; allocation of land for constructing a student hostel for the young generation hailing from the far flung areas and revocation of the dismantling of the Ram Setu which has religious significance for the particular community
