| Aijaz inaugurates new reception counter, library for IGNOU students | | | Jammu, April 19 Minister of State for Higher and Technical education Mr. Aijaz Ahmed Khan today inaugurated new Reception Counter for student support services and modern library of IGNOU Regional Center Jammu at Government SPMR Commerce College here today. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated the role played by IGNOU in spreading education by opening its study Centers in far-flung and militancy affected areas like Bhalessa (DODA), Rajouri and Poonch for providing efficient student support services and library facilities. He also assured every possible help to the regional center. The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Vice Chancellor of IGNOU Prof. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai for providing budget for library and student support services and lauded the efforts of Regional Director Mr.. G.H. Imrapur and other Officers of the center. Expressing his satisfaction over the functioning of IGNOU, the Minister said the students who could not persue their regular education are being provided value-based education through IGNOU. The Minister was informed that the library with a corporate look was opened for the students of Jammu and Kashmir and the infrastructure is better than the conventional system. He was further informed that IGNOU has set up its centers at central jail Amphalla and Udhampur jail for providing educational facilities to inmates and prisoners. IGNOU intends to open its study center at Kotbalwal jail shortly, the Minister was told. Regional Director, Mr. Imrapur while appreciating the cooperation of people of Jammu and Kashmir said that this state is a model for other states in respect of Hindu-Muslim unity and brotherhood. He said that the students of the state are very receptive and want to learn the latest trends in education.
