| Sunderbani receives CM with enthusiasm | | People paramount, politics subservient to public cause: Azad | |
JAMMU, APRIL 19 “People are paramount and politics subservient to public”, said Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad adding that the welfare of people has to be the primary concern. He said that government has resolved to improve economic conditions of people and eradicate poverty. Chief Minister was addressing a largely attended public meeting at Sunderbani about 70 kms from here on Thursday. He said that massive infrastructure development programme has been launched throughout the state which is unprecedented in last 50 years. During the next four years, he said, 100 percent coverage on account of road connectivity, electricity and supply of drinking water will be achieved. He said hundreds of new roads, scores of bridges, water supply schemes are under execution and many more in the pipeline adding that this would give flip to development profile of the state. Stating that tourism has attained the position of an important industry globally and perceived as a single biggest employer, Chief Minister said that Jammu & Kashmir provides larger canvass for promoting tourism and consolidating the sector as a high economy and employment generating industry. Mr. Azad said that attention has been focused on showcasing non-conventional tourist places. In this connection three tourist circuits and 22 tourism development authorities have been established in the state. “We would also like that large number of yatris visiting Vaishnodevi also visit Shiv Khori and other tourist places in Rajouri and other parts of Jammu region”. he said and added that Rs. 7 crores are being spent to develop Poonch- Rajouri tourist circuit. Referring to new Roshni Scheme, chief Minister said that thousands of farmers have been benefited by scheme by way of getting ownership rights of state land under their occupation. He asked the farmers to get mutations completed as early as possible and utilize the land optimally for the cultivation purposes. He said government will also take measure to provide irrigation facilities wherever possible in this regard. “I am not in a habit of making announcements during public rallies and abhor the practice of making false promises”, Mr. Azad asserted and said that representatives of Sunderbani should advocate their demand for sub-division in the Bloeria Committee constituted for the purpose. Chief Minister announced setting up of a trauma hospital in Rajouri district as the area is highly accident prone. He said the grievance of workers of Sunderbani Resin Factory and Kalakote Coal mines would be considered sympathetically and the concerned directed to work out some worker friendly policy in this regard. Chief Minister said that next roundtable conference scheduled on April 24 at New Delhi would discuss recommendations of the working groups and provide opportunity to all shades of opinion to put forth their view points and contribute positively for resolving issues relating to people of Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Azad said that state government would urge for making travel documents easy for the people traveling across LoC. “We will also discuss opening up of other routes and broadening the ambit of present visiting system by asking for allowing exchange of legislators, media persons, NGOs, teachers, students and artists”. This, he said, would further strengthen the relations across LoC. Chief Minister said our thrust will also be on starting trade through Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route and working out modalities for conventional and pilgrim tourism.
