| Islamic university unveils its architecture | | |
AWANTIPORA, APR 19 The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) on Thursday unveiled its ambitious architecture designed by a French Architect who has laid out a plan for residential university spread over 172 acres in the foothills here. Highlighting its salient features the architect Stephane Paumire and Dr M Amin Masoodi Registrar of the University said that it was the first of its kind architecture in Kashmir valley which has been laid out to create a centre of learning with International standards. The University which is being run by Waqf Board started functioning last year has number of streams which include management, computers and Islamic Studies.
Mr Paumire said on the occasion “the design which I made is unique of its kind because I used all natural resources like sunlight, rain water, for different purposes of facilitation which makes it a first unique step of valley’s architectural development”
Dr Masoodi said that “we will counter the international educational standards and make this campus a hub of research work . Now the time has come that south Asians students should forget the other universities of the world”.
Landscaping Architect Akshay Koul said the library which is having capacity 35,000 book volumes and an area of 2340 sqm will really boost the intellectual capacity of the students who will study here. He said the campus has a capability to generate the power which will meet the requirements of the university . He said it is a climate responsive design during winters because the solar water heaters shall be used the landscaping is done in such a way that the rain water is recycled and re-used keeping in view the scarcity of water in Awantipora..
