Jammu, Apr 19
To put an end to the week long protest on the campus, the Jammu University today decided to revoke the suspension of a scholar after a meeting with representatives of the students and the submission of a report by the disciplinary Committee.
Jammu University, Vice Chancellor Prof Amitabh Mattoo, told the media persons that university has decided to revoke the suspension of Sandeep Sandy as he had expressed regret over an incident few days back.
Prof Mattoo, said that the Jammu University believes in the spirit of tolerance and live and let live, and for this reason the suspension has been revoked.
Taking a snipe at people, who were bent upon creating trouble on the campus, the Vice Chancellor said that certain people are playing politics to pursue their vested interests and they were behind the unrest on the campus.
“Jammu University has achieved a list of successes during my tenure and this is not digestible to vested interests”, he asserted, adding “I do not belong to any political camp and I am not PDP< Congress or NC man.”
Unhappy with the manner in which some pamphlets were distributed on the campus, Mattoo said that this kind of thing was not possible without the support of some people inside and outside the university.
Admitting that there were some security related incidents on the campus, Mattoo reiterated that Jammu University is one of the safest campus in the country. However, he said that efforts would be made to improve the security in the University and allay the fears of the students.
Later, the Vice Chancellor along some media persons embarked upon a walk on the campus sans personal security to asses the situation on the campus.
Walking from University guest House to Environmental Science Department, the Vice Chancellor met a number of surprised students and interacted with them
Taken aback by the sudden rush of the VC, some of the University teachers also joined him during the walk getting down from their luxury cars.
