| IT sleuths raid establishments of four prominent businessmen | | Huge cash, jewellary, documents seized during raid | | Jammu | Apr 19 The sleuths of Income Tax Department today carried out simultaneous raids in residential and official premises of four prominent businessmen across the Jammu city. A total of 25 raids were carried out in different places including houses, school, mills, offices and other business establishments. During the raid, IT sleuths recovered huge amount of cash, expensive jewellary and some important documents. Raids were carried out by the department after specific inputs against the businessmen that they were evading tax payments by unlawful means. According to sources, a joint team of IT sleuths from Ludhiana and Jammu started carrying raids in the business establishments of three prominent businessmen Nagar Singh Choudhary alias Nago, Dewan Bansal (owner of Kashmir Steel Rolling Mill), Subash Chander (steel mill owner) and his partner Avtar Singh Khalsa, a property dealer of Digiana. The carried lasted for over six hours and during the raids huge amount of money, expensive jewellary and some important documents were recovered from these places. Sources said, IT sleuths raided the house, school and mills owned by Nagar Singh Choudhary alias Nago and recovered some valuables along with important documents. Simultaneously, the raids were also carried out in the business establishments of Dewan Bansal which include Kashmir Steel Rolling Mill. His Akhnoor road residence was also raided by the team and recovered important documents, cash amount and valuables. Cash amount of over Rs one crore was reportedly recovered during the raid. IT department had received several complaints of tax evading against the said businessmen and today the team of IT sleuths from Ludhiana in coordination with Jammu counterparts. Raids were also carried out in the Trikuta Nagar residence of Subash Chander, owner of a Steel Mill at Gangyal and recovered huge amount of cash and some documents. Several complaints of tax evading were also received against him by the IT deptt. In another raid, the house and office of Avtar Singh Khalsa, a property dealer of Digiana was raided in which team recovered some documents and cash. The recovered money, jewellary and documents were seized by the team and taken away for further investigations. Many startling disclosures are likely to be made after the thorough investigation of the documents, sources added. The raids were carried out on at least twenty five premises in Jammu and its suburbs. While the details of recoveries were unavailable, sources said officials were also carrying out surveys on some additional premises to get details of inventories lying in godowns. The IT team was headed by Addl Director IT Ludhiana Govind Lal and Asstt Director Investigation Jammu Rakesh Kumar. The raids were carried out under the direction of DI Ludhiana Roshan Sahai and Director General IT B D S Balihara.
