| Dul Hasti workers seek golden handshake | | | Jammu April 20 Trade unionists and employees from J P Industries Dul Hasti Hydoelectric Project under the banner of J P Industries Worker Union Kishtwar demanded revocation of 1072 workers by the management of the various projects including the one at Kishtwar. Addressing a press conference, here today, Imtiaz Zargar a trade unionist stressed that retrenchment carried by the project will lead many families towards starvation. He said that the company should have offered ‘golden handshake’ before retrenchment. Speaking to the media persons Zargar said, “despite the fact the company management and the workers representatives had entered into an agreement on 16/01/07 that management would not retrench any worker in the next six months but has bomb shelled the employees.’ Alleging the backtracking from the agreement by the management, he said the company in violation of the agreement had retrenched 1072 workers on 31/03/07 much before i.e. almost four months ago. Replying a question Zargar mentioned ‘Golden handshake’ to be implemented in this case also by extending benefits to retrenched staff from management so as to make them self reliant in near future. Speakers also informed that working under rigorous, unfriendly and harsh working conditions many skilled and unskilled labourers are facing health hazards including Asthma, TB and Kidney problems and thus it becomes obligatory to management to see the issue in human aspects also.
