JAMMU, June 6: National Secular Forum (NSF) today staged a protest against the state government for enhancing the retirement age of government employees from 58 to 60 years. Addressing the protesters here today, NSF president Sukhdev Singh said that the people of state in general and youth in particular have been facing several problems due to poverty, unemployment, corruption and mis-governance. "The major problem which is encountered by the youth is unemployment forcing the youth towards depression. Under these circumstances the enhancement in retirement age is irrelevant and injustice to the thousands of unemployed youth who feel themselves a burden in the society", he said. Singh further said that in developed countries the government employees were demanding reduction in retirement age, but in India especially in Jammu and Kashmir the state government bizarrely enhanced the retirement age. He further said that the decision of retirement age enhancement would encourage corruption with which the people were already fed up. Singh further castigated those employees, who were retired after the agreement was signed by the government and were contemplating to rejoin the services for two more years by opting for legal options. He appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to withdraw the decision of retirement age enhancement and gave opportunities to unemployed educated youth of Jammu and Kashmir. |
