Jammu, June 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the much awaited Katra-Udhampur rail link by June end, official sources here today said. "The Prime Minister may visit Vaishno Devi in June end and would also, likely, inaugurate the Katra-Udhampur rail link" sources here told . "The Katra-Udhampur rail link, which was earlier scheduled to be inaugurated in February this year but postponed after some technical snag erupted in one of the bridges on the track," sources said. Repairing work of the Jhajjar bridge and the work of lifting has been completed and is ready for the train to run on the track. Sources further added that the work at the Udhampur and Katra Railway Stations is also complete while escalators are also being installed at Katra Railway Station with other facilities put in place ahead of the inauguration. However, Commissioner Railway Safety (CRS), who inspected the track in January 2014, did not submit his clearance report for start of the service on the track to the Railways authorities. The Railway authorities, however, in December 2013 had conducted successful trial run of a train on 25-km-long Udhampur-Katra track, which would improve connectivity to the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine. |
