| Khan chairs Estimates Committee meeting | | | Jammu, April 20 – The Estimates Committee of Legislative Assembly has directed the Power Development Department to initiate stringent measures to improve the over-all power scenario in the State. The Committee issued specific instructions to the officers for exploiting the power potential from the available resources and make the state self sustenance. The Estimates Committee met here today under the chairmanship of MLA Mr. Ghulam Hassan Khan. Among others, the meeting was attended by MLAs Mr. Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sofi, Mrs. Kanta Andotra, Mrs. Shanti Devi, Mr. Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo, Mr. Abdul Majid Wani, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, Principal Secretary, PDD Mr. Madhav Lal, Managing Director JKPDC Mr. Sandeep K. Nayak, Specl Secretary PDD Mr. Khurshid Ahmed, Development Commissioner Power Mr. Showkat Rashid Wani, Chief Engineer M&RE Jammu Mr. D,. S. Pawar, Chief Engineer M&RE Kashmir Mr. Nissar Hussain, Additional Secretary Assembly Mr. G. N. Mir and senior functionaries of Power Development Department. The committee held the threadbare discussion on the various issues to improve the power situation in the state. Members suggested various measures in the direction. For judicious use of electricity by the consumers, the committee asked the department to conduct frequent awareness camps at all levels and review the schedules of power cuts periodically as per the requirements for consumers. Committee also felt need for some reformative measures for improving the basic infrastructure. While briefing the committee about the performance and status of various on-going power projects in the state, the Principal Secretary, PDD said that government has been making constant efforts to exploit power generation sources. In this connection, some project reports have already been completed and are under the active consideration of government. He gave one-to one account of status of various on-going power projects. He said that the department has already taken some reformative measures as per the direction of central government and hoped that within in next couple of years the power situation would improve.
