JAMMU, June 6: As there is no respite from the soaring mercury, the winter capital is sizzling at 43.7 Degree Celsius, which is five degrees above from normal. "The temperature today recorded was season's maximum 43.7 Degree Celsius and minimum was recorded 26.2 Degree Celsius," a MeT official here said. He said that the temperature continuously kept rising for the past one-week and this afternoon it touched 43.7 Degree mark, which is five degrees above from normal. All private and government schools upto higher secondary today got closed for two month summer vacation and will reopen on August 1 in view of prevailing hot weather conditions. "There will be no respite from the soaring mercury in the coming days head and hot weather conditions will prevail," he added. The official predicted clear sky for tomorrow with maximum and minimum temperatures around 44°C and 26°C respectively. Earlier on May 1 maximum temperature was recorded 40.3 Degree Celsius. However, the city roads wore deserted look today due to the heat wave. People were seen covering face and carrying umbrellas to protect themselves from the direct sunlight. Roadside vendors those selling sugarcane juice, ice candies and lemon water witnessed rush due to heat. However, protests were also staged against the PDD department at certain locations against unscheduled power cuts in prevailing hot weather conditions. |
