| Pahari speaking community criticize Govt for not granting ST status | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, June 6 : A meeting of several delegates of Pahari speaking community under the leadership of Provincial General Secretary, Pahari Forum (PF) Vijay Kochar today criticized the Gujjar Community for its alleged propaganda to oppose the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Paharis. The members of Pahari Forum appealed to the Union Government to grant ST status to Pahari speaking community and any further delay will force the Paharis to launch an agitation for scraping the same to Gujjars as both the communities sharing the same habitations, culture, traditions etc. Danish Mughal spokesman of Jammu & Kashmir Youth Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum (JKYPCWF) said that JK State Cabinet in 1989 Vide cabinet decision No-159/dated 8/8/1989 had recommended the then Union Government for granting scheduled tribe status to 7 tribes including Paharies. "Some vested interests in the State and at New Delhi opposed the ST status to Paharis for their vested interest despite the facts that Pahari Community was on the top of the list of seven such communities" said Danish. Shahbaz Khan, Chief Executive JK Pahari People Movement (JKPPM) said that J&K Assembly has many a time passed the resolution in favor of ST status for Pahari community and Registrar General of India had put some queries and following that the files for Gujjars and Paharis were sent back another survey was conducted. |
