| Workshop on “Women Studies” begins at JU | | | Jammu | Apr 20 A two day northern regional workshop on the theme “Knowledge Production in Women Studies” was inaugurated at University of Jammu (JU) here today. The Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS), JU is organizing the workshop in collaboration with Indian Association for Women’s Studies (IAWS). The programme was inaugurated by Prof Zarina Bhatty, Regional Coordinator IAWS. Speaking on the occasion, she highlighted the journey of Women’s Studies since 1975 from time of publication of Towards Equality report and also spoke about contributions made by IAWS to women’s movements. Earlier, Director CWS Prof Poonam Dhawan welcomed the delegates and emphasized upon the need to understand women’s issues and provide institutional leadership engender women’s issues into various disciplines also to take up women and education as the major area of study and research. Dr Mary John Director, CWDS said that it is important to create regional conceptuality and develop a framework for women’s studies. Meanwhile, the first technical session was chaired Prof Abha Chauhan, Director Dr Ambedkar Studies JU in which presentation were made on local issues of women in J&K by Anuradha Bhasin an eminent media person, Dr Yasmeen Ashai and Dr Rehana. In the second session, presentation was made on the theme Education and Gender.
