ARMY VETERINARY TEAM TREATS ANIMALS AT PAINTHAL

There was a massive turn out of animals in response to veterinary aid camp which was organized by the Army today at village Painthal in the hinterlands of Udhampur district under the aegis of HQ 71 Sub Area. The camp as part of 'Op Sadbhavna' was efficiently coordinated and conducted by 3 Advance Field Veterinary Hospital and was held in the premises of Govt Higher Secondary School, Painthal. The camp provided free veterinary check ups, treatment, mass dewormings and vaccinations against infectious diseases and spray against ticks along with surgical relief to more than 1200 animals. The expert veterinary team was led by Colonel Navaz Shariff, Commandant, 3 Advance Field Veterinary Hospital, Lt Col AK Verma and Capt Kamal Raj along with Dr SP Gupta CAHO. Veterinary surgical team from Jammu Veterinary College actively participated in the camp. A clinical cum pathology laboratory was set up by 2 Field Veterinary Lab to examine various laboratory samples and diagnose animal disease at the spot. Various Govt, sainik welfare and ECHS agencies actively participated and put up their stalls to extend help and educate the needy people.

Brig KK Chopra, VSM, Commander 71 Sub Area inaugurated the camp and interacted with the locals and Ex-servicemen. On this occasion Commander presented public address equipment complete with speakers to the school.

This goodwill gesture by the Army provided the much needed succor to the local Gujjar and Bakarwals of far flung areas near Painthal and to animals of remotely located villages. Another popular feature of the camp was the on the spot field surgery which was conducted by veterinary surgeons of the Army and Veterinary College Jammu which provided much relief to the animals specially those suffering from long standing ailments. The popularity of the camp could be gauzed by the overwhelming response of villagers who expressed their heart felt gratitude to the Army and desired that more such veterinary camps to be held on a regular basis in the adjoining villages.
