| AIR FORCE STATION JAMMU OBSERVES FIRE SERVICES WEEK | | | Jammu, 20 April 2007 The Fire Services Week was observed at Air Force Station Jammu from 14 Apr-20 Apr 07 in remembrance of 66 brave fire fighters of Bombay Fire Services and 231 others who lost their lives while fighting fire at “SS Fort Slinkines” ship at Bombay dockyard on 14 Apr 1944. The aim of observing the Fire Services Week at Air Force Station Jammu was to include a sense of awareness amongst the Air Force personnel about the importance of Fire Free Zones in all areas of human activities under the Mutual Aid Scheme. During the week group lectures and awareness campaign was launched in addition to fire fighting demonstration for general public, MES personnel, IOC, BSF, CRPF besides imparting instructions on the use and upkeep of the fire appliances in serviceable state to the staff and students of the Air Force School Jammu. During the closing ceremony representative of the IOC, Air Traffic Control, Fire and Emergency Service Gandhi Nagar Jammu and Fire Section of Air Force Station Jammu carried out mock-simulated fire drills. The function was presided over by Group Captain JS Kler VM, Station Commander, Air Force Station Jammu. During his closing address to the station personnel the Station Commander emphasized that one of the main cause of fire is carelessness and ignorance and cautioned all personnel to be vigilant against the fire hazards in the forth coming summers, said a PIB (Defence Wing) release.
