| Two HM militants gunned down in south Kashmir | | | Srinagar, April 20 Security forces gunned down two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, in an encounter at Ratnipora, Pulwama district of South Kashmir, while a search operation was going on in Harwan area of Srinagar, here this morning.
Senior Superintendent of police Nitish Kumar told News Agency of Kashmir that police received information about presence of militants hiding in the house of a local resident Ghulam Nabi Reshi in Ratnipora.
A joint operation was launched by Pulwama police and army, he said adding, and troop’s zeroed in on the hideout. The militants fired upon the troops in order to break the cordoned and a brief encounter followed.
While two policemen were injured in the initial stage of the gun battle, troops gunned down both hiding militants. The house in which the militants were hiding also suffered damage.
The slain militants were later identified as Bilal Ahmad Ganai resident of Ratnipora and Hilal Ahmad Baht alias Sajad resident of Lelhar Pulwama.
Police said that Bilal was involved in killing of PDD employee Manzoor Ahmed Chat 35, son of Sunaullah resident of Tulbagh Pampore in Pinglana village of Pulwama, whose body was found on April 14.
Meanwhile, security forces busted a hideout of Lashker-e-Toiba in Harwan area of Srinagar this morning. The operation was going on till last reports came in.
