| HuM hitman arrested in Srinagar | | | Srinagar April 20 Police today claimed to have arrested a Harkat-ul-Mujahideen hitman involved in two shootouts at Sopore from here today.
Police sources said the militant had injured two persons including his cousin at separate places on Wednesday.
According to ASP Sopore the accused fired upon and injured one Shahnawaz Ahmed Kaloo son of Mohammed Yaqoob Kaloo, a shopkeeper at Arampora Sopore. He said the same militant than accidentally shoot at Nazir Ahmed Pir his cousin to whose house he had gone to spent the night.
ASP said the investigations revealed that the accused Hilal Ahmed Pir son of Ghulam Ahmed Pir of Boniyar Baramulla who is maternal cousin of injured Nazir Ahmed Pir had come to his house at village Bulgam with the intention to stay for night.
While unloading the Pistol, the accused accidentally fired upon his cousin, after which he accompanied his inured cousin to SMHS Hospital Srinagar.
ASP said that in light of these facts, Srinagar Police was alerted and SHO Karan Nagar arrested the militant from SMHS hospital and upon the disclosure of the accused, the weapon of offence, a Chinese Pistol was recovered from the house of Hafizullah Pir.
He further said that during the course of investigations, it was revealed that the accused was a hitman of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen outfit, who along with his associate (who stands identified) was given the task of eliminating Shahnawaz Kaloo, whom they suspected to be a Police informer.
Police said that the involvement of accused and his accomplice in other cases is also being investigated.
