| Kashmir dispute resolution soon: Kasuri | | | Islamabad, Apr.20: Pakistan Foreign Minister, Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri has revealed that his country and India are quite close to resolving the vexed Kashimir dispute, which has dogged relations between the two countries for over five decades.
In an interview, Kasuri was quoted by The News as saying that a considerable amount of work on the matter has been done, "and the differences found on some matters were in the process of being ironed out."
Kasuri said the proposed accord might not be the best for all the three parties-Pakistan, India and the Kashmiris, but added that this could definitely be the second best.
He said that by giving final shape to the agreement, it would be presented in parliament for approval and in case the parliament disapproves it, then it would not be acceptable to Pakistan.
He said that any Kashmir package agreed upon would be irreversible for both Pakistan and India.
Both countries have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir. A 17-year-long insurgency, reportedly backed by Islamabad, in the Kashmir Valley, has claimed thousands of innocent lives.
Since the two countries activated a composite dialogue process in 2004, there has been a thaw in hostilities on either side. A series of confidence-building measures particular to the interests of Kashmiris have been initiated to build an atmosphere of trust and goodwill.
