| 'Three more MPs involved in human trafficking' | | | [21 Apr, 2007 NEW DELHI: In a new twist to the human trafficking case allegedly involving BJP MP Babubhai Katara, one of the arrested persons has named three other MPs to whom he had introduced travel agents suspected to be behind such rackets.
Sunderlal Yadav, a betel shop owner, who was among the three persons arrested last night here, told a local court that he had introduced travel agents -- Mahesh Gupta and Rashid -- to TRS Chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, MP from Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh, Mohammed Tahir Khan, BSP MP from Sultanpur in UP, Ramswarup Koli, BJP MP from Bhayana in Rajasthan and late Parliamentarian Ram Awadh.
Yadav said in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau during remand proceedings that he did not know that they were travel agents but he had simply introduced them to the MPs.
He had also named Rashid, Hyderabad-based travel agent, who was introduced to Khan through his personal assistant Rajnath. For such introductions, he used to get money from Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh, said Yadav, who has been remanded to three days police custody.
Yadav claimed that he had facilitated a meeting between the TRS Chief with Rashid with the help from the former minister's secretary, Moorthy.
Tahir Khan denied any misdoing and said it was a conspiracy against him. He did not know why Yadav had taken his name. He said he had travelled to Pakistan and the UK but had not relation with Yadav.
The court sent Rajender Kumar, the personal secretary of Katara, to five days police custody besides sending his sister, Kiran Dhar, to 10 days of judicial custody.
