| Rahul not a novice in politics, says Priyanka | | | 21 Apr, 2007 DIH: Priyanka Vadra on Saturday aggressively batted for her brother and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi saying no one should underestimate him as a politician and he will prove wrong all those who think he is a novice.
Priyanka, who is on a roadshow in Rae Bareli district for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, also backed the Amethi MP's controversial statements saying he knew history very well.
"No one should write off anyone in politics. My brother will prove him (Mulayam) wrong with time and days to come," Priyanka said referring to a statement made by UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav that Rahul is a political novice.
Priyanka, who is on the first day of her two-day road show in Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituencies, was speaking at a function while campaigning for Congress candidate Shivbalak Passi in Salon assembly constituency in Rae Bareli district.
On Rahul's controversial statements, including the one on the division of Pakistan, Priyanka said, "he knows history very well."
Appealing to people to strengthen the hands of Rahul and help him in fulfilling his mission, Priyanka said he always thinks about his constituency and whenever she meet him he would discuss about various development schemes in the area.
Priyanka said she is campaigning in Amethi and Rae Bareli at the behest of her brother.
Addressing women gathered at the venue, Priyanka said, "I am a mother and I know that every mother wants good future for their children. The comfort in the life of my children is due to all and I urge you to stand against injustice." Attacking the Samajwadi Party, Priyanka said the Mulayam government in the state was the most corrupt regime in the country. "There is no law and order in the state."
"It is neither Mulayam nor Mayawati that is the enemy of UP. It is poverty," she said asking people to vote for Congress to ensure development in the state.
"When it comes to Lok Sabha polls, the votes and organisation are together with Congress. But it disperses away during Assembly polls.
"For the development of the region, you should elect Congress candidate so that the Centre can work through the MLA for your welfare," she said.
