| Mangat stresses for promoting hidden talent of deaf, dumb | | Inaugurates additional block of GGHS Top Sherkhania | | Jammu, April 21 Minister for Health & Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma has said that Samaj Kalyan Kendra is doing a commendable Job by providing educational and vocational training to deaf and dumb students and free boarding and lodging facilities. Minister was addressing at a silver jubilee function of Samaj Kalyan Kendra held here today. MLA, Mr. Yogesh Sawhney was also present on the occasion. Founded by Dr. Ram Rattan Khajuria in 1981 in a temple, the Kendra has progressed rapidly and at present is providing training to 78 candidates including boys and girls in different trades like cutting, tailoring, motor binding and computer etc. Mr. Sharma said that though deaf and dumb children suffer some deficiencies yet they have some God gifted hidden talent which needs to be explored and promoted to provide them the opportunity to flourish. He said vocational training to these children is essential service towards such sections of the society, as it will help them to earn their livelihood and live a respectable life in the society. He appealed public to contribute generously for the cause of such children so that all basic facilities are made available to make them self-sufficient. He donated Rs. 10,000 to the Kendra. Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation Mr. Narinder Singh and Mr. Yogesh Sawhney also addressed on the occasion and assured all possible assistance to full fill the cherished goal. On this occasion, Minister alongwith other dignitaries also released a souvenir of the Kendra and distributed trophies among the noted personalities and who worked for smooth functioning of Kalyan Kendra and teaching community. Mr. Inderjit Khajuria President of the Kendra while giving details said that objective of Kendra is to educate and equip the handicapped educationally and technically so that they can earn their livelihood in a dignified way. At another function Minister inaugurated a newly constructed additional building of Government Girls High School Top Sherkhania. Double storied two-room building with stairs, compound wall with main gate and repair and renovation of old block upper and lower terrace completed at a cost of Rs. 9.71 lakh by R&B Construction Division-II. Addressing on this occasion, Mr. Sharma said that government is keen to equip educational institutions with all basic infrastructure to strengthen education system and raise enrollments in government schools. He announced installation of 5 fans and a water cooler for the school. He also issued directions for proper electrification of school building and provision of desks for the schools. Corporators Mr. Manmohan Singh, Mr. Rajinder Singh, Director Education, senior officers of PHE, R&B and allied departments besides teachers, parents and students participated. |
