| 16 injured in grenade attack | | | Srinagar, Aug 6 At least 16 persons, including six policemen, were injured when militants hurled a grenade towards a police party in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir today.
Militants hurled a grenade towards a police party at main Chowk Sopore, 55 kms from here, around 2.45 pm causing injuries to six policemen and 10 pedestrains, official sources said.
They said all the injured, who included an Assistant Sub-Inspector of local police were evacuated to hospital.
This was the third militant strike in the area since yesterday. Militants exploded two grenades in the main chowk within a span of three hours Sunday causing injuries to eight persons including six BSF personnel.
Police assisted by paramilitary forces immediately cordoned off the area to nab the militants involved in the latest grenade attack, the sources said.
In another incident, the sources said militants fired a rocket and opened fire on a security convoy at Kangan, 40 kms from here on Srinagar-Leh National Highway, this afternoon.
However, none was hurt in the ensuing shootout which took place at Goniwan-Gagribal, the sources said adding the ultras were hiding in the nearby forest area and made an abortive attempt to target the convoy from there.
The sole rocket fired by militants hit a civil truck but failed to explode and was later defused by the experts, the sources said.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the two attacks.
