Check Antecedents of Langar Sewadars : Shrine Board
4/22/2007 11:31:42 PM
Jammu,April 22
Following inputs from
intelligence and security agencies indicating an
upswing in militancy related violence the Shrine
Board,headed by Governor,Lt-Gen (Retd) S.K.Sinha,has issued
guidelines for those NGOs and other voluntary
organizations who plan to set up Langars for pilgrims
to the holy shrine of Amarnath.
The two-month long annual Amarnath pilgrimage is to
start from June 30 June, subject to fair weather.
The Shrine Board has directed those,in whose favour
langar licence has been allotted,to furnish particulars
of sewadars alongwith their antecedents and an
undertaking on their letterhead for their moral
character for issuance of passes and identity cards.Already
permission has been accorded for setting up 100 langars.
The Board has suggested to
the langar organizers
that the sewadars to be employed by them have the
security clearance certificates from their native
police authorities. Those sewadars who do not furnish
identity cards and security clearance certificates
would not be permitted to move from Jammu to
Pahalgam, the base of the annual Yatra, and to the
mountain track leading to the cave,an abode of Lord
Shiva and his consort Parvati.
The langar owners have also been instructed to
establish langars in double fly tents or temporary
structures. The Board will not allow setting up
polythene based tents. They have to ensure that each
langar has a suitable fire fighting equipment
preferably soda acid type fire extinguishers.
A senior official of the Shrine Board said here
today that these measures were being taken to prevent
any criminal or a militant from creating any law and
order problem during the pilgrimage under the guise of
sewadars.
The NGO
licensee have to ensure maintenance of
updated list of inflammable materials including
kerosene oil, ghee gas cylinder stored within the
langars. The langar operators have been debarred from
selling dry provisions to the pilgrims.Anyone found
violating this order shall be blacklisted and
permission for setting up langars would be
cancelled. They have also been requested to donate
leftover dry provisions,including
wheat, rice, ghee, kerosene oil, sugar and edible oil to
the Shrine Board, after the completion of the yatra,so
that the same could be distributed among the
destitutes and in the homes for the old.
