| Hasina to return despite ban | | |
LONDON: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, banned from entering her country by the military-backed government, will return home on Monday and has not been denied passage by the British Airways, her close aide said.
The Awami League chief's spokesman here M A Rohim said on Saturday that "Sheikh Hasina who is currently here has conveyed that she is firmly determined to return to her country, saying whether they arrest me or hang me I don't care."
He refuted reports that the British Airways had told her that it would not issue her boarding pass at the instance of the Bangladesh's interim government. "We have contacted the British Airways and they have said that if a person has got a return ticket they would be issued a boarding pass three hours before the flight takes off," he said.
"Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to leave by the British Airways flight leaving for Dhaka at 1525 hours from Heathrow Terminal IV on Sunday" Rohim said. There was no official reaction from British Airways.
During the last two days Sheikh Hasina had a series of meetings with chief secretary to the treasury Stephen Timm, MPs and Lords.
