Effort to resuscitate the dying voice of Jammu statehood, Pro-Jammu groups stressed
4/22/2007 11:36:17 PM

Jammu April 22
Polls2002- the demands of separate statehood for the Jammu region emerged as blockbuster with Jammu State Morcha and Jammu Mukti Morcha throwing their hats in political arena.
However, the failure of both the entities to make a headway during the polls as Congress made a clean sweep in Jammu, with BJP paying the price of this endeavour.

Although the voices demanding a separate statehood for Jammu slowly faded away but the ensuing assembly elections does seem to have activated the interests of these parties.
Once again the Jammu Mukti Morcha with the support of likeminded parties is going to set stage for the said demand, sources said.
If one recalls JJSF, JKNPP, JSM and JMM set the stage for the separate statehood for Jammu and reorganization of the state to end the age-old political and economic discrimination at the hands of the Kashmir based politics.
Riding on titillated emotions and sentiments, the JKNPP held a unexpectedly huge public rally at Parade Ground while the Jammu State Morcha and Jammu Mukti Morcha also mobilized the public opinion giving surprises to the main stream political parties.
However, the demand for a separate state of Jammu could not turn into a political reality, with majority of the people of Jammu voted for traditional Congress and National Conference and gave a fractured mandate.
However, this time the Jammu based parties are not only keen to rekindle the flame of statehood but they are planning to launch a sustained campaign which could translate into some tangible results for the people of Jammu.

And presently there are rumours in the city that parties namely, Jammu State Morcha, Jammu Mukti Morcha, People’s Revolutionary Movement, Duggar Pradesh Party and others may join hands as one to raise this demand of separate statehood.
Recollecting from the past, Om Praksh staunch supporter of Jammu State Morcha said it was a genuine demand and people will support the joint effort and send more legislators to Assembly.
He further said the buck didn’t stop here but the demands has been supported by all and it surprised many when, Professor Virendra Gupta of Jammu Mukti Morcha managed to get approximately 18000 votes in his favour though it was his very first entry in active politics.
Suresh Sharma of Purani Mandi and supporter of People’s Revolutionary Movement (PRM) said that PRM is all set to create awareness among people living on this side of Jawahar Tunnel.
Talking to Early Times, Professor Virender Gupta, president, Jammu Mukti Morcha admitted that he is planning to create a joint platform for this struggle. He said in the coming month with the blessings of almighty we will come out as a joint platform to rejuvenate the demand of Jammu statehood. However he denied that the demands has faded with the time but stressed that they had kept the ball rolling with their fullest strength and hoped that like minded parties like JSM, PRM and other claimant of this issue rising above the party politics must join the conglomerate to strengthen the demands.
