WhatsApp helps in rescue of injured techie

BANGALORE, June 25: A 24-year-old software engineer from Delhi remained trapped for nearly 10 hours after he fell 300 feet while rock climbing. An image that he managed to send through WhatsApp helped in saving his life.
Gaurav Arora and Priyank Sharma had gone rock-climbing on Sunday at Madhugiri, 60 kms from Bangalore. While Priyank dropped out of the climb after he got tired, Gaurav continued to climb.Gaurav Arora suffered severe injuries and could not be traced for several hours after he fell. However, police managed to trace Gaurav through the picture he managed to click of the location where he had fallen, which was sent to his friend Priyank Sharma.
Madhugiri police inspector C Girish Nayak said the photograph sent via WhatsApp helped them trace Arora.
"We noticed that Madhugiri town was visible in the picture and based on that information, we managed to reach the spot where he had fallen," Nayak said. Gaurav is recovering at a hospital in Bangalore.
