| | | Mountaineering Basic course in August JAMMU, June 25: In order to popularize adventure activities in general and mountaineering in particular, Tawi Trekkers J&K, the premier adventure club in the state, shall depute a number of boys and girls for Basic and Advance courses in Mountaineering at Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam during August and September. Candidates who successfully complete the 26 days Basic Course in August can later on be deputed for Advance Course in Mountaineering so that they become eligible for participation in national mountaineering expeditions organized by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi. Similarly, candidates securing grade-A in Advance course can be considered for undergoing Method of Instruction course in Mountaineering, next year, a handout issued here today informed. Persons interested to attend Basic or Advance Course in Mountaineering may contact the general secretary of Tawi Trekkers, Ram Khajuria on Mobile No. 94191-96378 for further details. ==== Abdul Ghani wins Bambyal Kesari title JAMMU, June 25: Wrestler Abdul Ghani of Maler Kotla in Punjab clinched the Bambyal Kesari dangal title outplaying Pardeep of Patiala in a close contest that lasted for 30 minutes at Bambyal. Winner and runner–up wrestlers were awarded with cash prize of Rs 31000 and Rs 20,000 respectively by the chief guest, state general secretary of BSP, Rakesh Wazir in the presence of senior PDP leader, Showkat Choudhary. The second main bout won by Zakir of Bishnah, who defeated Sanjeev Singh of Delhi. Lallu of Garh Shankar won the fourth bout beating Bobi of Bishnah while fifth bout between Babba of Kot Bhalwal and Abdul of Maler Kotla ended in a draw. Dangal was organized by Bambyal Dangal Committee under the overall supervision of chairman Ram Singh, vice chairman, Choudhary Bashir Ahmed and secretary Choudhary Manzoor Ahmed. While Manik helped the side reduce opponent to a low score taking away four wickets, Bandeep late made it an easy win hitting 23-ball 51 runs. Now, with three wins out of four league outings, KCCC looked confident to find berth in the knockout stages of the competition. Earlier, batting first, AMCC bowled out for 78 runs in 19.3 overs. Bablu remained top scorer with 23 runs while Gulshan added nine runs. From KCCC, Manik Gupta emerged as most successful bowler with four for 13 in four overs. Bandeep Singh and Trivuvan shared two wickets each. Sahil and Somay Jain took one wicket each. In reply, KCCC chased the target making 81 runs for three wickets in mere 7.3 overs. Bandeep Singh hit 51 runs off 23 balls while Manik Gupta contributed 12 runs. For his all-round performance, Bandeep was obvious choice for the man of the match prize worth Rs 1,000. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Striker Cricket Club defeated Whites Cricket Club (WCC) by four wickets. Batting first, after winning the toss, WCC set a target of 123 runs for seven wickets. Vikas and Deepak were main contributors to the total with 28 and 18 runs in their respective accounts. From Striker, Sahil bagged three wickets for 15 runs in three overs, followed by Sachin and Ankan, who shared two each. Later, Striker attained the goal in 18.5 overs losing six wickets. Mohit and Amit Rathi were top scorers with 38 and 35 runs respectively. From WCC, Akshit clinched four wickets for 17 runs in four overs while Rajesh and Deepak took one each. For his economical spell of three overs with three wickets, Sahil was declared man of the match.
