Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 25: There is a total public outcry in Ganderbal district due to food scarcity with people protesting against CAPD for depriving the majority of people from ration.
The people face total food scarcity as the Government is providing ration as per census of 2001 and not as per census of 2011, said Mir Ghulam Rasool, a trade unionist and People's Conference leader. He said there is total public outcry in the district as authorities are providing ration as per the census of 2001 due to which majority of population is deprived of ration. He demanded that ration be supplied as per the census of 2011. Moreover the ration supply has also been curtailed to a great extent. Mir, while making a scathing attack also took the Government to task on food security bill saying what has been the fun of passing a law in parliament when poor people face starvation. He said public distribution system is totally in shambles in the state as mafia Raj prevails in the CAPD department and there is a nexus between CAPD department officers and black marketers. Mir said people in areas of Sherpathri -Lar-Watlar Ganderbal, Zuhama, Manigam, Barsoo, Butwani, Kangan, Gunal, Wangat, Sumban Kangan, Kulan and other areas are facing dearth of ration and the authorities are sleeping over the issue.
Mir also accused the PDD for mismanagement in power supply saying the people with one or two rooms get the same power Bill which those residing in palatial bungalows of 10 to 15 rooms get.He said with this mismanagement system many poor people are unable to pay power tariff the arrears of which have increased to Rs 30000 to Rs 40,000 per family.
