| Court denies bail to Cricketer turned robber | | Robbery at Sr Advocate's House | | Jammu, June 26 (JNF): Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu SC Katal today rejected the bail application of Nitin Mehra cricketer turned robber who was arrested by the Bakshi Nagar police in alleged robbery at Sr. Advocate's SS Lehar House at Gun point. According to the police, on February 7, 2014 the accused who was equipped with arms entered in the house of complainant Sr. Advocate SS Lehar and robbed on the gun point jewellery and cash from the wife of the complainant and the accused had allegedly taken away the bangles along with one gold ring and also took Rs 2 lacs cash from the house of the complainant. On this police registered a case u/s 392/452 RPC and 3/25 Arms Act. CJM Jammu Mr. SC Katal today after hearing both the sides observed that Senior Prosecuting Officer Rajeswar Basotra has resisted the present application on the grounds that the offences are non-bailable and accused is habitual offender and if bail is granted he will again commit the similar offence thereby causing he and cry in the society. He further submitted that there are many FIRs have been lodged against he accused and prayed for rejection of the bail in the interest of justice. CJM Jammu after hearing Senior PO Rajeshwar Basotra appearing for the state observed that the overt-act of accused is sufficient to cause fear in the mind of peace loving citizen and keeping in view of the gravity of the nature of allegations, the requirement of accused for recovery of huge cash and social aspect of case, this court is of the opinion that it is not an appropriate stage where discretion to grant of bail is required to be exercise in favour of accused person and rejected the same. |
