6/26/2014 11:16:45 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 26: Traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was resumed today after remaining suspended for about 16 hours after a gas tanker overturned near Jawahar tunnel.
Thousands of vehicle, including those carrying passengers and essentials remained stranded on both sides of the tunnel on the highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
Official sources said here today that traffic on the highway was suspended as a precautionary measure after a gas tanker overturned near tunnel. Driver of the tanker was injured who has been hospitalised, they said.
Sources said due to gas leak, nothing could be done last night. However, this morning the tanker was lifted from the main road and traffic resumed.
Since there were more than 4,000 vehicles, including those carrying passengers on both sides of the highway, it was decided to clear all stranded vehicles before allowing fresh traffic.
People travelling on the highway alleged that there was traffic jam at several places, leading to confusion and chaos.
