| CM to visit Leh, Kargil soon to take stock of flood damages | | | Srinagar, Aug 06 A deputation from Leh and Kargil districts called on Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad here this evening and apprised him about the loss of life and property and damage caused to houses, infrastructure like roads, bridges and irrigations kuhls besides standing crops in both the districts due to cloud burst and heavy rains. The deputation was led by Power Minister Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora and Social Welfare Minister Haji Nissar Ali. Mr. P. Namgyal MLC, Councilor LAHDC Leh Mr. Rigzin Spalbar and prominent citizens from both the districts were also in the deputation. Mr. Rigzin apprised the Chief Minister that 24 houses have been washed away in Pheyang village besides causing death of one person reportedly in Leh district. He said extensive damage has been caused to roads, bridges, kuhls, houses and standing crops. Haji Nissar Ali while giving details of the loss of life said that reports of loss of four precious lives have been received from Kargil district besides damage to crops and infrastructure due to floods. The deputation urged upon Chief Minister to visit both the districts at the earliest to personally assess the situation arising out of cloud burst and heavy rains in the area. Azad assured the deputation that weather permitting he would soon visit Leh and Kargil districts to take stock of the loss of life and property and damage caused to crops and infrastructure due to cloud burst and heavy rains in the twin districts. |
