Taj inaugurates Belicharana modern chick and grower cage system

Jammu, April 23
– Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Animal and Sheep Husbandry Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din has said that to achieve self-sufficiency in poultry meat and egg production the government is introducing new species of poultry birds which have all ready been introduced in Bangalore and Chandigarh cities imported from Japan and Turki. He said the growth of these imported poultry varieties is three times higher than local ones.
The Minister after inaugurating modern chick and grower cage system, constructed at a cost of Rs 3 lakh at Belicharana Jammu today said that this modern farm having rearing capacity of 4200 poultry birds with automatic feeding, drinking water and medication facilities needs less manpower.
Mr. Taj said that poultry sector needs keen attention of the government as this sector promises economic upliftment of ruralarties. He said to develop this sector various poultry development programmes have been launched under which incentives and financial assistance are being provided to those who open poultry units .
He called upon un-employed educated youth to involve themselves in poultry rearing and set up their own poultry units and avail the benefits of incentives being provided under Poultry Development Programmes.
He enjoined upon the functionaries of the department to work with devotion and dedication for the development of the sector and provide all necessary facilities besides modern technical know-how to the unit holders. He also stressed for launching more and more awareness camps in rural areas for setting up of new poultry and dairy units so that state becomes self-sufficient in poultry meat and milk production.
On the occasion, Director Animal Husbandry Jammu Mr. S. C. Gupta apprised the Minister that 0.28 lakh poultry birds were reared, 4.27 lakh eggs and 2.27 lakh day old chicks were produced during the last year in Belicharana poultry farm. He also informed that Rs. 13.79 lakhs revenue has been realized by selling over 119 quintals of poultry birds during last year by this farm.
He said at present 7 hatchery farms of high quality of poultry birds are functioning in various areas of Jammu division which include hatching poultry farm at Doda, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch and Kathua under government sector.
