| 'J-K poised to achieve cent percent literacy soon' | | Azad’s dynamism brought Educational revolution, says Mangat | | SRINAGAR | AUGUST 6 Jammu and Kashmir state which was far behind in the education sector decades before is now becoming main centre for quality education, this was stated by minister for transport Mangat Ram Sharma, here today. In his presidential address at a function organized by NEESF-NEES at SKICC for distributing awards among 210 meritorious students. He said that it was contribution of both government and private educational institutions that they have achieved a distinct reputation in providing quality education to students. He refers to late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who with his vision introduced free education in the state. He said that it is because of free education and nominal fee, the people living below poverty line were able to acquire education and today people from other parts of the state are coming here for higher education. He said that about 65000 students belonging to other states are presently getting education in different educational institutions in the state. Sharma said that since Mr. Azad had taken the education portfolio, he has brought revolution by creating rich infrastructure, ordering construction of colleges and equipping here with all necessary basic infrastructures. This move has opened new vistas of education all over the state and making it a hub of education. Sharma stressed for imparting moral education to the students which is necessary for building strong mental, physical and moral character. He said the teachers has greater responsibility in building a moral charter of the students while imparting academic qualification to prepare them to face the future challenges of the state. He said that need of the hour is to keep constant check over the new generation to restrict them to fall prey to the social evils and menace of drug addiction which is proving to be most dangers for the growing generation. Sharma asked the parents to give priority to female education which has become essential in the modern day world. He said education to a girl child means education to whole family. Appreciating the organizers Sharma said that NGO (NEESF-NEES) is doing an excellent job in bringing forth the hidden talent among the children of Kashmir division and asked them to expand their area of activity to reach out to remote and far-flung areas so that children from such areas could get the due exposure. He said the government will extend all possible assistance to flourish the NGO in case it fulfills the requisite formalities. Mr. Sharma announced Rs 20,000 from his discretionary fund for the welfare of the NGO. Director Information Kh. Farooq Renzu, A. G. Madhosh, Dr. A. H. Zargar and Dr. Nazir Ahmad also spoke on the occasion. |
