| Chamel Singh's family eagerly waiting for PM Modi | | Seeking 'Martyr' status, adequate compensation | | Early Times Report Akhnoor, June 30: Family of Indian prisoner Chamel Singh tortured to death inside Pakistans Kot Lakhpat jail on January 15, 2013 are keenly awaiting arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state of J&K to take up the issue of compensation and bestowing title of a 'martyr' for their deceased father. Modi is scheduled to visit Katra in connection with the inauguration of train service to Katra via Udhampur on July 4. Modi is also expected to address a gathering after the flagging off ceremony. During his brief stay in Katra the family of Chamel Singh has expressed their desire to meet Prime Minister to take up the issue of compensation as more than one year has passed neither the state nor the centre govt has moved an inch to deliver justice to them. Elder son of Chamel Singh, working as a daily wage labourer said, "we are hopeful that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address the issue of compensation for the kin of Chamel Singh and also bestow title of a 'martyr' on the pattern of another Indian prisoner Sarabjeet Singh". Dara Singh said, during election meetings in Jammu Narendra Modi always raised the issue of compensation and the sacrifice of our father. Now he has himself become Prime Minister of India we look upon him to come to our rescue. Dara Singh said when BJP leader and state icnharge Avinash Rai Khanna handed overa cheque to my mother in Chandigarh he had also demanded a compensation of Rs 1.25 crore on the lines of Sarabjeet Singh. Dara Singh said addressing media persons in Chandigarh BJP Rajya Sabha MP Avinash Rai Khanna had claimed that the Congress led UPA govt should announce a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for Chamel Singh and Omar Abdullah led alliance govt in J&K should announce another 1 crore for the kin of Chamel Singh on the pattern of Sarabjeet Singh. |
