| Idle parking on bridges inviting serious mishaps | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 30: Notwithstanding tall claims of J&K Police in providing a better security apparatus for the safety of people, the unabated idle parking of heavy vehicles on Tawi Bridge at late night hours has exposed the alacrity of the men in khaki. Being a security threat in itself, the parking on the Tawi bridge needs to be checked, but the JKP is still waiting for an untoward incident to happen. As per the information available with Early Times, a large number of locals during evening park their vehicles over bridges on river Tawi in order to get some relief from the hot summer, oblivious of the fact that it can be a major cause of mishap. Sources rued with Early Times that besides the light vehicles which are parked during evenings, some drivers park their heavy vehicles on the Tawi bridge late night giving open invitation to serious mishap. Sources also rued that this is a security threat in view of the ongoing Amarnath yatra and visit of the Prime Minister. SSP Jammu, Uttam Chand when contacted by Early Times said." I have also seen all this but this is under the control of Traffic police to stop this illegal parking on the Bridges". Accepting negligence on the part of Police authorities , he said he will check the matter again and ensure that such kind of parking over the bridges is not allowed. While DIG Traffic, Shafkat Watali when contacted said that the late night parking is an issue related with the District police as Traffic Police does not have enough man power to work in the Late nights. Moreover he added that public is not ready to abide by the norms and can be seen violating laws brazenly, " but being a cop, I am liable to streamline the traffic and soon a meeting in this context will be organized with some members of JKP to chalkout the strategy ,"he added.
