Kishtwar riot victims stage protest against non- payment of compensation
Block road, threaten to intensify stir

Kishtwar, June 30: Annoyed over the delay in release of compensation, Kishtwar riots victims along with Traders Association Kishtwar held a strong protest outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and blocked National Highway for more than 3 hours demanding immediate release of compensation in favour of those who had lost their property and business establishment in August 9th and 10th Kishtwar and Padder communal riots.
The victims along with traders nearly 100 in number displaying the placards highlighting demand of release of compensation, beside demanding CBI probe into the Kishtwar communal riots in which over hundred shops and residential house beside government property were damaged by unruly mobs who went on rampage, staged vehement protest.
As soon as the protestors blocked the road, SHO police Station Kishtwar Sameer Geelani rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitating victims for talks with administration, but the protestors turned down the offer.
Later Dy. SP HQ Kishtwar Nazir Ahmed Ganie also rushed to the spot . The protesting victims only agreed to call off the protest after assurance from Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan who also held a meeting with the agitating traders community who threatend to intensify the agitation in case the administration failed to clear the pending relief cases. While talking to the media persons, several riot victims among the traders community said that the association has decided to hold today's protest only to warn the government and District Administration Kishtwar who are sitting over the compensation files since last over 10 months and have withheld the compensation of the riot hit victims whose property and business establishments were set on fire by unruly mobs during Kishtwar communal violence.
They said that there are 22 compensation files pending with administration and added that in many cases, the administration has reduced the compensation amount by half of the actual compensation.
They said that the administration has assured them that the compensation files will be cleared shortly, falling which the association will intensify its agitation. All the business establishments belonging to minority community remained close throughout day today, however few shops were open in the evening.
